System requirements

Target audience and prerequisites

This documentation is targeted at commissioning engineers, simulation engineers and CAM programmers who are proficient in the use of KUKA.Sim.

  • Required prior knowledge: Experience with KUKA.Sim (programming and modelling functions)

System requirements (Windows)

For collision-free path planning in high-dimensional configuration spaces (≥ 6 degrees of freedom) within complex industrial plant environments, we recommend the following hardware:

Minimum requirements

Component Specification Explanation
CPU Quad-core processor, ≥ 3.5 GHz For basic path calculation and collision checks
RAM 16 GB Sufficient for medium-sized models and environments
Storage SSD with at least 256 GB Fast access to environment data and temporary files
Operating system 64-bit Windows 11 Enables efficient multithreading and process prioritisation
Component Specification Explanation
CPU High-end multi-core processor (e.g. Intel Core i9 / AMD Ryzen 9) with at least 10 cores and high clock frequency (>3.6 GHz) For fast serial and parallel processing of the path planning algorithms
RAM 32 GB or more For complex environment models and extensive collision checks
Storage NVMe SSD, at least 1 TB For fast access to large environment data and intermediate results
Operating system 64-bit Windows 11 Enables efficient multithreading and process prioritisation
Warning

Please note: For high performance requirements, it is recommended to use desktop or server hardware. Laptops cannot provide the required computing power on a permanent basis due to thermal and energy-related performance limitations (power throttling).

Note: These recommendations apply to highly complex environments. For less complex scenarios, lower hardware requirements may be sufficient.

Supported versions

  • KUKA.Sim: Version 4.3 & 4.10
  • Visual Components Version 4.9
  • Other versions may also be supported, but unfortunately we can only offer direct support for the versions listed above. For more information, please contact our support team.
Info

In KUKA.Sim, go to ‘File → Options → Add On → byte Robotics - Optimized Collisionfree Pathplanning’ and check whether your robot is displayed as ‘Supported’.

Directories and logs

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Aurora
  • Configuration: Set via the KUKA.Sim options (‘File → Options → OCP Options → Connection Settings’)
