Using components and objects from the eCatalog may cause the collision check in the backend to fail to find any solutions. This may be because some objects contain incorrect geometry data.
An example of this is the image of the Kawasaki BA006L. When the robot is moved from its HOME position, it becomes apparent that some objects contain incorrect geometric data.
To ensure that the collision check works correctly, the robot must be adjusted.

In order to use collision-free path planning and path optimization, collision lists must be created in the programming environment. A general explanation can be found in the KUKA.Sim Help.
To assist with this, functionalities for automatic generation have already been described in the OCP Tab.
You can choose whether to add all components to the collision lists or only those within the robot’s workspace. This can only be set for all robots.

Collision-Free Teaching of Process Points

Before automatic planning can be performed, all process points must be correctly marked. However, in these cases in particular, the robot’s tool may come so close to the geometries that a collision occurs. When teaching points, care must therefore be taken to ensure that the robot does not collide with the geometries. Otherwise, collision-free optimization is not possible from the very beginning.
This problem can be addressed using the integrated tools from Visual Components or KUKA.Sim. These ensure that the robot movements defining the process are collision-free and remain outside the specified minimum distance.

Under KUKA, safety configurations can be created for the selected robot using Work Visual.
A work cell is created automatically. Tools and so-called axis-specific and Cartesian spaces can be created for this cell.
These spaces are divided into working spaces, where the tool is allowed to be located, and protected areas, which the tool is not allowed to enter.
This video from the Visual Components Academy explains exactly how this function can be activated.

Warning There is a known issue with some models from the eCatalog of Visual Components version 4.9:
When a base is connected to the workpiece positioner, the robot configurations are no longer set correctly. The base must therefore be referenced to the world coordinate system.
This can be tested by initializing the base as described. Then select the statements in the “Program” tab and check if the robot position matches the point coordinates. If it does, everything is fine; if not, the described problem occurs.
Important When using a robot with external axes, such as a rotary tilt table, ensure that the base coordinate system is correctly set and linked to the last axis of the table to guarantee correct motion generation.
See also Initializing the base with external axes.
In order to successfully carry out path planning, it is initially necessary to create the scene and define the scope of the program. This involves defining all the points required for the process, which serve as the basis for path planning.

Use Automatic collision free planning to plan multiple connections in one program run. Mark the required transitions with HALT statements. During simulation, planning requests are captured with their respective scene state, and collision-free paths are calculated after the program run.
1. Prepare the scene and program Select the robot and the program to execute. The program must be able to run to completion in simulation. Prepare the scene, including tools, workpieces and obstacles. Configure the collision lists to be considered, particularly for self-collisions. Check the tool and base coordinate systems. For external axes, follow the base initialization workflow. Ensure that the backend is connected and a valid license is available. Select the required path planning settings, such as motion type, minimum clearance and termination condition. 2. Mark transitions with HALT In the program editor, insert a HALT statement between the start and goal positions of each connection to plan.

Using Visual Components or KUKA.Sim with an Addon the Process Modeling can give you the option to quickly generate robot scenarios and also robot programs.
The robot can be moved automatically by the Process Modeling Robot Controller. This execution can be recorded and then played back. A video demonstration can be found in the Visual Components Academy.
Recording and robot program view To view all available product flows, please switch to the “Process” tab and access the “Flow” view. By clicking on a flow arrow, you can access the relevant properties.
