Target audience and prerequisites This documentation is targeted at commissioning engineers, simulation engineers and CAM programmers who are proficient in the use of KUKA.Sim.
Required prior knowledge: Experience with KUKA.Sim (programming and modelling functions) System requirements (Windows) For collision-free path planning in high-dimensional configuration spaces (≥ 6 degrees of freedom) within complex industrial plant environments, we recommend the following hardware:
Minimum requirements Component Specification Explanation CPU Quad-core processor, ≥ 3.5 GHz For basic path calculation and collision checks RAM 16 GB Sufficient for medium-sized models and environments Storage SSD with at least 256 GB Fast access to environment data and temporary files Operating system 64-bit Windows 11 Enables efficient multithreading and process prioritisation Recommended hardware (for production environments) Component Specification Explanation CPU High-end multi-core processor (e.g. Intel Core i9 / AMD Ryzen 9) with at least 10 cores and high clock frequency (>3.6 GHz) For fast serial and parallel processing of the path planning algorithms RAM 32 GB or more For complex environment models and extensive collision checks Storage NVMe SSD, at least 1 TB For fast access to large environment data and intermediate results Operating system 64-bit Windows 11 Enables efficient multithreading and process prioritisation Warning Please note: For high performance requirements, it is recommended to use desktop or server hardware. Laptops cannot provide the required computing power on a permanent basis due to thermal and energy-related performance limitations (power throttling).

This guide explains step by step how to successfully install the byte robotics OCP plugin in KUKA.Sim. Please follow the steps carefully to ensure a smooth installation.
Requirements KUKA.Sim must be completely closed, including all processes running in the background. You need local administrator rights on your computer to perform the installation. Installation instructions Completely exit KUKA.Sim. Ensure that no associated processes are running in the background, as this may interfere with the installation.

Before the OCP plugin can be used, a valid license must first be set up.
License Activation After installing the OCP plugin, open the Options section (1) in the main menu. Select the Add-On tab (2). In the displayed section, the entry byte Robotics - Optimized Collision-Free Path Planning will appear. Click Change License (3) or toggle the switch (4) to open the license window. Set the switch (4) to Active to activate the OCP plugin. Online License For online activation, proceed as follows:

Info Prerequisite:
One of the following simulation environments is installed: KUKA.Sim Visual Components iiQWorks.Sim The OCP plug-in is enabled and licensed for the simulation environment. Your first collision-free path in 5 minutes Load scene Open your project inyour simulation environment and ensure that the desired robot is present in the scene. Check robot Check the status in the OCP tab: ‘Support Info’. Activate collision detectors In the OCP tab ‘Collision Checking’: Switch on ‘Enable Detectors’. If necessary, activate ‘Workspace only’ and update the A/B lists via ‘Update lists’. Set Minimum Clearance A useful starting value for ‘Minimum Clearance’ is 2–5 mm. Higher values increase the calculation time. Plan 1:1 Path Planning [Sequence] Select two points in the Program Editor → context menu ‘1:1 Path Planning [Sequence]’ or ‘Path planning commands’ in the OCP tab. Validate Activate collision checking in the simulation environment and play back the path; collisions are marked in yellow. Save/export Name and save sequences in the Program Editor; export according to your process. Tip For large CAD assemblies, reduce the tessellation level and hide unnecessary geometry to improve performance.
